Hans was a notorious rule-breaker, but only those rules that make no sense, or were so restrictive as to be silly. He knew the difference between illegal (can't skateboard) and immoral (stealing someone's skateboard) and didn't mind showing the world what he thought about our overly litigious world. He believed we are becoming a society of safety freaks. Though he died taking a risk, neither he nor we would ever consider outlawing skateboarding or driving cars, yet more and more rules and laws are being imposed on our society, restricting our liberty for the sake of "safety." The world and life can never be, nor should it be, risk-free. People regularly send us photos of silly rules and restrictions that Hans would have lambasted and that can sometimes make our world no fun.
